Importance of Repurposing Crayons
Welcome to the importance of repurposing crayons page. We are excited to share why we believe taking effort to repurpose crayons is worth it. Please read on to discover the impact behind this initiative!

How Crayons End Up in Landfills
Whether crayons are broken, thrown away, or simply forgotten in a drawer, inevitably, millions of crayons are thrown away each way. Eventually, these crayons end up in landfills.

How Crayon Waste Hurt our Environment
When crayons are thrown away in the trash, they find their way into landfills. Crayons are typically made from petroleum-based paraffin wax. Petroleum, negatively impacts wildlife where drilling occurs. Furthermore, paraffin wax isn't isn't biodegradable, meaning the crayons take decades to decompose. This causes a waxy sludge that pollutes the environment. To make matters worse, the crayons takes hundreds years to decompose, which further harms the environment.

How CREATE is Making a Difference
Crayons naturally get worn down—whether the paper rips off or the crayon itself breaks apart. As a result, most people resort to throwing them away when they are not longer usable.
So, to help reduce crayon waste, The CREATE Project recognizes this issue and is dedicated to limit the amount of crayon waste. By repurposing crayons, we not only protect our planet, but also provide crayons to those who may not have access to them. These crayons are given to nearby churches, libraries, special needs organizations, and more. Our goal is to preserve the life of crayons by giving them a second life—which not only protects our environment, but also brightens lives!
